Russian Maria Verchenova Is Golf’s Next Hottest Swing
The list of hot Russian female stars continues to grow; already including Anna Kournikova , Maria Sharapova, Anna Semenovich, Elena Bovina, and Yelena Dementyeva, you can now add Maria Verchenova to the ever growing list.
Maria Verchenova was born on 03/27/86 in Moscow Russia. 174cm tall with dark brown hair and brown eyes, she started to play golf at the age of 12. Studied sports at Moscow State University of Sport. Attached to Moscow City Golf Club. Turned pro 1st December 2006.
The 23-year-old from Moscow was introduced to golf by her father on a holiday to the Czech Republic and since that day she has been transfixed by the sport, refusing to be dissuaded by the lack of opportunities in a country with just three golf courses.
The first Russian to become a full-time member of the Ladies’ European Tour, she secured her first top-10 finish in Wales in her rookie year of 2007.
Verchenova admits that tennis star Sharapova is a role model – but she is adamant about the reasons.
“I am looking at Maria, not because of the way she looks but because of the way she plays,” Verchenova explains. “I think Russian women are strong mentally. They are trying really hard and they are achieving things.”
“I always like to bring something extra special to the golf course, so if I’m wearing sexier, more stylish stuff like a shorter skirt or a nice tennis-style dress and people notice then great. ”
